17 - 20 JUNE 2027
Celebrating the Art of Storytelling
StoryFest is one of New South Wales' premier regional literary festivals with a growing reputation nationally. Started in 2019 from its base in Milton, Mollymook and Ulladulla on the beautiful mid-South Coast, StoryFest is now on its fifth biennial festival with planning underway for the next event in June 2027.
Our mission is a simple one: to harness the power of storytelling to inspire positive outcomes for our people, our local writers, businesses and our community. We aim to do that in four ways by:
organising quality storytelling events in an area where there is a deep appreciation of literature, arts and culture
helping to produce economic benefits to the local community through out-of-region visits during the off-peak winter period
inspiring literary and creative expression in local school students
providing artists with the opportunity to reach new audiences in regional NSW.
StoryFest is a celebration of all things storytelling, whether that's through the written and spoken word, in song and music, prose and poetry, in film and vision, in art in all its forms and through the nourishing aspects of food and drink. We celebrate the new and old, the traditional and modern and a history that dates back tens of thousands of years.
Our stories come through the heart, from the youngest of our generations thanks to our dynamic schools program to the oldest of our people who give back through a life of knowledge and experience. We tell those stories on Yuin Country and we proudly acknowledge and pay our respects to the traditional owners, the Murramarang people.
StoryFest 2025 was our biggest festival yet and involved a unique blend of talent including fiction and non-fiction writers, world leading academics, song writers and performers, as well as self published and first time novelists. We attracted a high calibre of artists across all genres and mediums including our patron Markus Zusak, Richard Glover, Inga Simpson, Tracey Spicer, Chris Hammer, Tim Ross, Katie Noonan, Stephanie Alexander, Gina Chick and Nardi Simpson.
We held 63 author and story-telling events over six days between 16 and 22 June which were visited by 1,900 guests, a five per cent increase on our 2023 numbers. Ticket sales for the main four days of the festival totalled 3,165, an increase of six per cent. Our Schools Program sparked the imagination of more than 2,500 students from kindergarten to year 11 across 6 local primary and high schools, while more than a third of our attendees signed up for one of the four StoryFest Extras - The Giving Tree, Story on a Plate, Lunch with Love, and Poet Taster.
The new committee looks forward to welcoming everyone to StoryFest 2027 which is provisionally pencilled in for 17-20 June of that year. We also encourage you to take part as a guest and visitor, an organiser, a volunteer, a presenter or a moderator. Whatever the way, we'd love you to be part of the story!
