StoryFest: Be Part of the Story!
StoryFest 2023 is being held across a massive four days, 15-18 June, in the beautiful Milton-Ulladulla area.
As a celebration of storytellers and storytelling, StoryFest has something for everyone - but authors and other creatives might be particularly interested in our workshops. Michael Winkler (whose book Grimmish is the first self-published work to be shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Award) will share his secrets in "Self-Publishing Success". Inga Simpson (Willowman) is sure to provoke our imagination with "Nature Writing Comes Naturally". Miles Merrill of Word Travels is keen to help you use story to get your message across to any audience in "Write to Perform". And, thanks to Miles, if you're a poet or spoken-word artist, you have an unmissable opportunity to take part in the first heat of Australian Poetry Slam 2023 on stage at the historic Milton Theatre!
For those more interested in sharp insights and and big ideas, StoryFest is hosting 18 panels across two days. Markus Zusak (The Book Thief, The Messenger) and Pip Williams (The Dictionary of Lost Words, The Bookbinder of Jericho) will discuss the joys and pitfalls of seeing their written work being adapted into other forms in “From Page Turner to Premiere”. Kirk Docker (creator of ABC TV's You Can't Ask That) will ask some fascinating questions across two diverse panels, “You Must Ask That!” and “Only in Australia”. David Hunt (Girt series) leads one panel on humour (“Seriously Funny”) and another on historical fiction (“Untangling Fact from Fiction“), and Wendy McCarthy asks "Is Truth a Dying Art?" while Lee Kofman (The Writer Laid Bare) leads a discussion on "Story as Recovery". Six of our local authors are showcased in "Live and Local". And that's just the tip of the storytelling iceberg!
Join us in June - be part of our myriad stories and perhaps spark your own!
